Leading plant hire specialists, Ashbrook, have taken delivery of the first CAT320 SRL in the UK.

“This Next Generation machine builds on the successes of a mainstay of the Ashbrook fleet, the CAT320 Long Reach. We’re excited to be able to offer this Next Generation of benefits to our customers,” said Mike Ashbrook, Ashbrook Commercial Director.

“The CAT320 SRL Next Gen really does move the standard of the CAT320 range above the previous models and the competition. It raises the bar in terms of efficiency and fuel economy for machines in this size class.”

Neil Baxter, Finning UK Sales Representative added: “All our Next Generation machines come with the highest level of standard factory technology. Along with a cab ergonomically designed to promote operator comfort and lower fuel costs versus other machines in this class. Combine these powerful upgrades together, and this really is a machine that will set a new pace in terms of productivity and profit for your operation.”

Going into more detail, Mr Baxter stated that “the CAT320 SRL Next Generation offers an increase in fuel efficiency of up to 25% versus the 320F excavator. Through the use of Smart mode, the machine automatically matches engine and hydraulic power to the digging conditions. This then ensures optimum efficiency with every bucket movement.

“Emissions are controlled through the use of a transparent after treatment system. But don’t worry it doesn’t require any operator input or downtime to maintain. This means that the electronically controlled, twin turbocharged engine meets EU Stage IV emission standards. Therefore helping to support your environmental targets on site.

“Switching between attachments is straightforward as auxiliary hydraulic options give you the versatility to utilise a wide range of CAT attachments’.

Mr Baxter went on to add: ‘Like its sister machine, the CAT336 Next Gen, the CAT320 SRL Next Generation has up to 45% more operating efficiency. It does this by fully utilising the wide range of technology that comes as standard with these Next Generation models.

“Swing Assist allows the operator to define set points in truck loading and trenching. Thereby ensuring the machine uses less effort and consumes less fuel.

“Boom Assist, will keep your tracks on the ground in hard lifting and digging situations. Again, supporting greater machine efficiency.

“Bucket Assist, is designed to automatically maintain the angle in sloping, levelling, fine grading and trenching applications. Set your desired bucket angle and you’re away.

“Last, but not least, in terms of technology that comes as standard, is the CAT PAYLOAD on-board weighing system. This is a real step forward for real-time site efficiency. It allows the operator and the site management team access to on-the-go weighing and real-time estimates of your payload without stopping.

“To turn to the design of the excavator for a moment. The machine comes with wider track pads than the standard CAT320, which stand at 7.9m wide. This helps ensure optimum stability when the excavator is operating at the maximum reach of 15.57 metres.

“These particular models come with deluxe cab. They therefore boast wide spacing between the consoles and a 10-inch monitor.

“For operator comfort there is a nice wide seat. This can be adjusted to fit to operators of all sizes. In addition, there’s easy access in and out of the cab with the tip-up left console. While the viscous mounts have been improved versus previous models. This has the effect of reducing cab vibration by up to 50%.

“These CAT320 SRL Next Gen also come with climate control and Bluetooth connectivity.”

Mr Ashbrook concluded: “As leading plant hire specialists, it is important to us that we remain at the cutting edge of machine design and technology. By investing in these excavators, we are, once again, able to offer our customers the best the industry has to offer and of this we are very proud.
